Answer to Ian William’s letter (15^th April 2004) concerning the message of Sergio Tommasi published in newsletter 06/ 04

The endurance intercontinental newsletter was created as a vehicle for information, views and opinions concerning the endurance sport. The newsletter is free of charge and is sent out to all those who asked for it as well as to the members of the FEI Endurance Committee for information.
Cette newsletter a été créée comme moyen d'information et pour faire circuler vues et opinions sur le sport d'endurance. Elle est gratuite et envoyée à tous ceux que cela intéresse, ainsi qu'uax memebres de la commission endurance.

I am not a professional journalist and don’t know a lot about legal matters concerning this domain. I was just was convinced that when a person asks for publication of  a message with his/her own signature, this person and all the readers understands that /or the author of the message alone is responsible for the content.
Je ne suis pas une journaliste professionelle et je ne connais pas les obligations/droits en la matière. J'étais juste convaincue que si qcq demande une publication avec sa signature, que cette personne - ainsi que les lecteurs- comprend que seul l'auteur est responsable du contenu.

There have been a lot of newsletters sent in during the last 3 years. The messages in these newsletters were published no matter whether or not I shared the views expressed in them. I published all of them to keep the discussion open.
Il y a eu differentes newsletters envoyées ces 3 dernières années que j'ai publiées que je sois ou non d'accord avec ce qui était dit. Je les publie toutes pour garder la discussion ouverte.

Concerning Sergio Tommasi’s letter published in newsletter 06/04, my personal comments are the following:
En ce qui concerne la lettre de Sergio TOmmasi du 06/04, mes commentaires personnels sont les suivants:

§         I have not evaluated the accuracy of the statements of Mr. Tommasi. With his signature under the message it is clear these statements are published "as he sees it" and not as unbiased facts.
Je n'ai pas évalué l'exactitude des affirmations de Mr Tommasi. Avec sa signature en bas du message, il est clair que le message est publié "tel quel" et pas comme une information vérifiée.

§         I personally am not happy with the way the question of the qualification criteria had to be handled by the FEI. I hoped that the FEI Code of Conduct for the Welfare of the Horse would have a greater impact on the outcome than some missing words in a text. But II do not share Mr. Tommasi's comments on the person of Ian Williams. It is a personal attack which is in no waynot helpful to the causes behind his message.
Je ne suis personnellement pas contente de la manière dont la FEI a géré cette affaire de critères de qualification. J'espérais que le code de consuite pour le bien du cheval aurait plus d'impact que quelques mots manquants dans un texte. Mais je ne partage néanmoins pas les commentaires de Mr Tommasi sur la personne de Ian WIliams. C'est une attaque personnelle qui ne sert à rien et ne fais pas avancer les choses.

§         It was a mistake to publish this personal attack and spread it to a wider public through the newsletter. I apologise to Mr. Williams for having done so.
C'était une erreur de publier cette attaque personnelle et de la disséminer vers un large public. Je m'en excuse.

My conclusions as to the future of this newsletter:
Conclusions :

§         I will continue to publish it in the current form and hope everyone accepts it for what it intends to be.
Je continuerai à publier la newsletter dans sa forme actuelle et j'espère que chacun la considère telle qu'elle est et qu'elle veut être

§         Messages touching the personal integrity of anyone will no longer be published.
Des messages touchant à l'intégrité d'une personne ne seront plus publiés

§         I cannot guarantee for the accuracy of the content of any message signed by another person. However, the newsletter will always remain open for counter-declarations.
Je ne peux garantir l'exactitude du contenu des messages signé par une autre personne. Cependant la newsletter sera toujours ouverte pour des corrections et démentis.

§         Gulf News: Several riders qualified for Senior World Championship 2005

During a 160 km ride held over 2 days several riders from Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia qualified for the next year’s World Championship in the UAE.

 Ré-élection de président de la commission endurance de la FEI
Le norvégien Hallvard Sommerseth a été réélu à la présidence de la commission endurance pour un second mandat de trois ans. Allan Renner(AUS) et Pierre Cazes(FRA) rejoignent la commission en tant que membres en lieu et place de Horst Mueller(GER) et Faisal Seddiq Al Mutawa(UAE).

Hallvard Sommerseth (NOR) was re-elected Chairman of the Endurance Committee for a second term of three years.
Messrs Allan Renner (AUS) and Pierre Cazes (FRA) joined the Endurance Committee in replacement of outgoing members Horst Mueller (GER) and Faisal Seddiq M. Samea Al Mutawa (UAE) respectively;
