A côté des stars, pas timide pour un sou, dans sa robe brillante, toujours animé de son esprit guerrier, il y avait un petit bai à trois balzanes. Dans sa tête il croit qu'il peut encore rivaliser avec les meilleurs, passer plus vite qu'eux dans les endroits difficiles tout en gardant son bel équilibre, faire deux boucles sans boire sans que cela ne porte – trop - à conséquence, se jouer des ornières, souches et autres pièges de la piste… Par moments, son cavalier se surprenait même à rêver, mais il ne voulait pas le laisser aller à sa guise cette fois, car il ne fallait prendre aucun risque sur cette – dernière – course. "To finish is to win".

Beside the big stars, not shy at all, in his shining coat and still lead by his warrior's spirit, there is a little bay guy with three socks. In his mind, he still think he can rivalize with the cream of the crop, go faster in the difficult parts while keeping his outstanding balance, or even cover two loops without drinking, or playing with the traps of the trail... From time to time, his rider was dreaming about new successes, but nevertheless he didn't want to let him go as fast as he want. He didn't want taking any risk for his - last - race. "TO FINISH IS TO WIN"

A vingt ans, Orfeo des Iviers était là pour honorer l'invitation et figurer une dernière fois parmi les grands. Mission accomplie. Il a honoré son contrat.

At 20 years, Orfeo des Iviers was there to honor the invitation and have a chance to compete for the last time among the stars. Mission accomplished. He honored his contract.

Sur l’ensemble de sa carrière, Orfeo des Iviers (Pedant / Opala) a réussi 8 courses de 160km, 4 courses de 130km, 1 course de 2x100km et 1 course de 150km.
Il a gagné Compiègne CEI***, Ermeloo CEI***, le Championnat de Belgique CEI*** et Peer CEI**. Il s’est classé TopTen sur un Championnat du Monde (Compiègne-2000) et sur un Championnat d’Europe (Badajoz-1999).

During his career, Orfeo des Iviers (Pedant / Opala) completed 8 races of 160km, 4 races of 130km, one race of 2x100km and one race of 150km.
He won the CEI*** of Compiègne(FRA), the CEI*** of Ermeloo(NED), the Belgian Championship and Peer(BEL). He took a TopTen placing at one WEC (Compiègne 2000) and at one European Championship (Badajoz 1999).

Il a fait 4 Championnats du Monde et 2 Championnat d'Europe... ce n'est pas loin d'un record.

He took part at 4 World Championship and 2 European Championship... this must be close to a record.

Et il a emmené sur son dos et émerveillé à l’entraînement tous ses grooms qu’il remercie de leur sollicitude : Caroll, Maddy, Susan, Adrienne, Paola, Pratima, Florence, Annie, Nathalie, Steph, Pierre, Alex, Willy, Luc, Etienne… Mais il a aussi botté Caroll, Annie, Alex et Etienne dans autant de Championnats du Monde et d’Europe J

He took on his back and delighted during conditioning all his grooms - thanks everybody - Caroll, Maddy, Susan, Adrienne, Paola, Pratima, Florence, Isabelle, Annie, Steph, Pierre, Alex, Willy, Luc, Etienne...
But he kicked also Caroll, Annie, Alex and Etienne during World and European Championships :-)

	1997 Orfeo rentre seul à l'écurie, son propriétaire a dû tomber – on ne le saura jamais – sur la piste et s'est brisé les cervicales. Personne n'en veut en Belgique. Moi j'ai besoin d'un cheval à monter pour m'entraîner pour préparer la Tevis, et même si Orfeo me jette deux fois à terre quand je l'essaye dans son pré, son œil et sa détermination me plaisent et je le ramène à la maison. Qualifications sur 60 et 80km, de ci de là. Orfeo comes back, alone, to the stables. His owner and rider felt and broke his neck. Nobody wants to buy this horse in Belgium. But I was desperatly looking for a horse to train myself for preparing the Tevis. Even if Orfeo threw me two times to the ground when I was riding him in his pasture, I loved his eye and determination. So let's partner and Inshallah. We did some qualifications rides on 60 and 80km.
1998 Mai : première 120km, l'Ardennaise(BEL). Il finit dans le milieu du classement. Août : première 160km, Goettingen(ALL). Orfeo se classe dans les derniers et gagne son ticket pour les sables de Dubai Décembre : Championnat du Monde Dubai. Orfeo est arrivé comme une comète dans l'équipe belge. De timide suiveur, il devient le fier meneur dans la dernière boucle. Il côtoie avec respect le grand Nelson, Django, Ratzia d'Alauze, Varoussa, Univers du Verdier. May : first 120km, the Ardennaise in Belgium. He completes the ride in the middle of the pack. August : first 160km in Goettingen, Germany. Orfeo finishes the race but it was not easy. By getting this placing, he won his ticket for the WEG in Dubai. December : World Championship in Dubai (A new era has come for the international endurance). Orfeo arrives in the belgian team as a comet. He started the race as a shy follower but he ended it leading the whole team to completion. At that time, he was with big respect beside the big Nelson, Django, Varoussa, Jedi, Ratzia d'Alauze, Univers du Verdier.
	1999 Mai : Ermeloo 160km(NED. Première victoire, devant Jack Begaud et Movoska. Il prend conscience de sa classe. Juillet : Moulin Engilbert 130km(FRA). Top Ten avec de très bons derrière lui. Septembre : Championnat d'Europe Badajoz(ESP). Orfeo se classe 7^ème. Il commence à titiller Django, et finit juste derrière Varoussa, Ratzia d'Alauze et Caline de Biar, devant Horla et Nelson. Le petit bai sait qu’il peut figurer parmi les grands. Orfeo est classé deuxième à l'ELDRIC, l'organisation européenne d'endurance aujourd'hui disparue. May : At Ermeloo, in Holland, Orfeo clinches his first victory. Ahead of the master Jack Begaud and Movoska. He becomes aware of his world class. July : At Moulin Engilbert, in Burgundy France, he finishes TopTen ahead of very good performers. September : The European Championship in Badajoz, Spain. Orfeo takes the 7th place. He is not afraid anymore of Django, Varoussa, Ratzia or Caline de Biar. He even beat Horla and Nelson ridden by Sh.Mohammed and son. The small bay now knows he can take his place among the best.
	2000 Février : President's Cup(UAE). Eliminé au dernier recheck, Léo a dû oublier sa modestie dans les palaces des sables. Mars : WorldCup 2x100km (UAE) : 12^ème sur une petite centaine de partants. Mai : Championnat de Belgique 160km : Vainqueur. Septembre : Championnat du Monde, Compiègne (FRA) : 8^ème, battu au sprint par Sh. Rashid et Django sur l'hippodrome de Compiègne. Il y avait là tout le gratin de l'époque, Varoussa, Dynamic, Nida, Amélie, Falene de la Drome, Urielle Princière… Quelques jours plus tard, le suspenseur est gonflé. Tendinite. Le diagnostic des vétérinaires et très réservé. Pour eux, sa carrière sportive se termine là. Repos puis utilisation de la méthode de Tom Ivers, « The Bowed Tendon », pour tenter de réparer les dégâts. Ca marche, "Thanks Tom". February : the President's Cup in the UAE. Eliminated at the last recheck. His rider Leonard has left his modesty somewhere in the Palaces of the desert. March : Worldcup in the UAE on 2x100km. This time, lesson taken. He completed 12th and first european among a good one hundred starters. May : The Belgian Championship. Winner. September : The World Championship in Compiègne, France. Orfeo starts the sprint on the racetrack against Sh. Rashid and Sh. Hamdam. He is beaten by Django and Sh. Rashid. He takes the 8th place. The best were competing : Varoussa, Dynamik, Nida, Amelie, Falene de la Drome, Urielle Princière... A few days later, the suspensory shows some swelling. Tendinitis. The veterinarians' prognose is very negative. He will never compete again. But his rider doesn't want to believe that. Communication with Tom Ivers by internet, applying the method of his book "The bowed tendon". That works, thanks Tom !
2003 Mai : victoire sur la 130km de Peer en Belgique. Le grand retour mais son cavalier gardera pour toujours la peur au ventre. Août : victoire à Compiègne sur la CEI* de 148km devant un bon panel de chevaux. May : victory at the 130km of Peer in Belgium. It looks like the comeback. August : Victory at the CEI* of Compiègne, France, ahead of some very good performers.
	2004 Mai : Orfeo assure la médaille d’or de l’équipe belge en prenant la 12me place sur le CEIO de La Baule(FRA). May : Orfeo secures the team gold for belgium at the CEIO of La Baule, France, finishing at 12th place.
2005 Janvier : Championnat du Monde à Dubai, Orfeo emmène encore la Belgique vers la médaille de bronze par équipe Septembre : EC à Compiègne : La Belgique prend l’or par équipe. Orfeo, dans l’équipe, arrive à la 10^ème place mais est éliminé au trotting final sur un jugement très contestable. January : World Championship in Dubai. Orfeo leads the Belgian team to the Team Bronze. September : European Championship in Compiègne, France. Belgium takes the Team Gold. Orfeo made part of the team and finished the race at 10th place, but was vetted out at the final trotting
	Septembre : WEG à Aachen : Orfeo court en individuel. Il va trop vite sur la troisième et la quatrième boucle, brûlant ses cartouches, s’excite, ne boit pas. Erreur du cavalier de ne pas avoir su freiner et calmer le jeu. Il est éliminé au recheck de la dernière étape. September : WEG at Aachen, Germany. Orfeo doesn' make part of the team and runs this time as individual. They go too fast during the third and fourth loops, burning his energy. That was a big mistake from his rider as he dah to slow down and calm down his generous mount. Orfeo is vetted out at the recheck of the last loop.
