24/08/06 - Médiocre prestation à l'exception de Kouros
Médiocre prestation des belges à Aachen. Sur les 5 chevaux engagés, seul Kouros des Iviers avec Valérie Keuninck a tiré son épingle du jeu en prenant une bien belle 7ème place après avoir fait la course en tête pratiquement toute la journée. La tactique d'équipe prônée par Pierre Arnould était de partir et de rester devant coûte que coûte. Ce rythme effréné a été fatal aux chevaux de l'équipe : D'abord Habibate Resin se fait éliminer pour une boiterie franche au premier contrôle déjà; ensuite au recheck de la 4ème boucle c'est Poespass qui ne peut repartir à cause d'un cardiaque trop élevé; au même recheck c'est aussi Higgin du Barthas qui présente une boiterie d'un postérieur. A ce moment, il ne reste plus que Kouros comme cheval d'équipe.
En individuel, Orfeo est parti plus sagement mais trop excité, il puisera petit à petit dans ses réserves et sa déshydratation ira en s'aggravant. Il sera finalement éliminé au recheck avant la dernière boucle.

The final horse and rider assessment for team selection before the 2006 World Equestrian Games was held during the Cirencester Park Ride on Saturday 17 June and gave the selectors the opportunity to see many aspiring International riders from all three international Squads under very testing competitive conditions....

For Aachen the team squads comprise 6 horses and 5 riders rather than the usual 6.
The combinations selected to represent Great Britain are:

Le chef d'équipe américain a été démissionné par la fédération américaine (USEF). On parle en coulisse d'une possible nomination de Valérie Kanavy. Beaucoup de digression sur le sujet sur les forums de discussion américains.

Simplement pour illustrer le malaise : "editorially ... (of course I can't resist:) sounds like there's moldy hay in the manger that's causing the organization to colic ..." United States Equestrian Federation® is pleased to announce the
selection of the National Endurance Team/Short List for the 2006 FEI
World Equestrian Games. Twelve horse and rider combinations and six
ranked alternates were selected to continue training for the traveling
team that will represent the U.S. at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian
Games in Aachen, Germany, August 20 - September 3. The endurance
competition will begin on August 21, 2006, the first competition of
the Games.

The top 12 horse and rider combinations are listed alphabetically as follows:

- Betty Baker Synematic, a 9-year-old Arabian gelding
- Julie Bullock Iron Wyll, a 9-year-old Arabian/Quarter Horse gelding
- Kathryn Downs Pygmalion, a 10-year-old Arabian gelding
- Joseph Mattingley SA Laribou, an 11-year-old Arabian gelding
- Jennifer Niehaus Cheyenne XII, a 14-year-old Arabian gelding
- Stephen Rojek Finch, a 10-year-old Arabian gelding
- Christoph Schork Taj Rai Hasan, a 7-year-old Arabian gelding

The list was created through an extensive selection process by a
committee who observed the horses and riders at various events during
the past two years. The final six horses and five riders will be
selected at the completion of two training events that take place in
early July.

15/06/06 - Belgique
Upd 15/06 : Après le Ch. de Belgique, il semble bien que sauf vente ou problème physique, Poespass ait gagné sa sélection. Pareil pour Orfeo qui a bien réussi son épreuve test à Etalle.

Upd 15/05 : La Belgique n'a pas adopté un système de Long-List. Plutôt un système libre où les choses se décanteront au fur et à mesure des courses. Trois belges viennent de terminer une 160Kms à Rambouillet : Valerie Keuninck avec Kouros, Michel Lequare avec Habibate Resin et Karin Boulanger avec Oasis. De la saison dernière, il y 6 chevaux ayant réussi une course de 160Kms. On attend le Championnat de Belgique pour y voir un peu plus clair.

Chez les belges la participation du cavalier au moins est obligatoire pour prétendre à la sélection nationale. Il est admis que la participation à l'épreuve inférieure de 120Km peut suffire. La Commission endurance qui d'après le règlement fédéral effectue la sélection avec le Chef d'Equipe a ajouté un point stipulant que "en cas d'égalité la participation au Championnat de Belgique ferait la décision". Donc beaucoup d'indécision pour les cavaliers et leurs suiveurs et beaucoup de supputations dans le petit milieu de l'endurance belge

WEG Endurance Team Hopefuls Prepare to Demonstrate their Abilities

With the 2006 World Equestrian Games just three months away, the top
endurance riders in the U.S. are preparing to demonstrate their abilities in
the hopes of earning a place on the U.S. Endurance Team. In order to be
considered, each rider must compete at one of three FEI***/AERC
dual-sanctioned 100-mile rides scheduled for May 20 in Oreana, ID; May 27 in
Grand Island, MI; and June 11 in Ashland, MT. Members of the National
Selection Committee will be present at each event to evaluate the
competitors' performances.
According to United States Equestrian FederationR's Director of Endurance
Programs, Mary Lutz, there are approximately 49 riders scheduled to compete
at one of the three observation trials, including members of the current
National Training Squad and former World Endurance Champion Valerie Kanavy
and former Pan American Endurance Champion Heather Reynolds. Riders who have
been nominated on more than one horse must compete at one observation ride
with each horse.
Chef d' Equipe Tom Johnson of Loomis, CA, said the he doesn't expect the
nominated horses to be "peaked" for the observation trials, but should still
be building up toward the World Equestrian Games. "I expect the successful
riders to ride strong and smart, and to finish within a reasonable distance
of the winning horse but not necessarily win," Johnson said. "The top horses
will make it look easy by finishing strong and looking good while doing it."
Following the final observation trial, the National Team of 12 horse/rider
combinations plus six ranked alternates will be selected by the National
Selection Committee. "Those riders will then attend one of two training
events," said Johnson. "Locations of the events will be selected based on
their location in order to minimize how far they have to haul. Riders will
complete a test ride of 30 to 50 miles."
The final team will be selected based on several factors, which include but
are not limited to the horse's fitness and soundness and the rider's ability
to ride to instructions. Johnson added, "The goal of the selection process
is to finish strong in Aachen. The observation trials are a step in that
direction."
The team of riders selected to represent the United States in the endurance
competition at the World Equestrian Games will be named by mid-July and will
depart for Aachen, Germany, the first week of August. The 100-mile world
endurance championship will be held August 21.

La France a officiellement communiqué sa "Long List" de sélection, c'est à dire les cavaliers et chevaux avec lesquels le staff français va travailler particulièrement pour préparer sa sélection pour Aachen. Tous des chevaux qui ont tourné très vite à Rambouillet sauf Shango et Imanh qui ont arrêté ou ont été arrêtés (pour leur protection???).
